Monday, July 27th, 2009: The 37-year-old Hiroshima Carp center fielder might not have the spring he had in his step years ago, but the "old man" can still play the game. Norio Ohara has been a reliable ballplayer, one who has worked hard to earn everything he's achieved and today he sits on top of the heap as he was named the Central League Player of the Week.
He went 9-19 to rack up a .474 average with 1 home run and 8 RBI this past week. Ohara also scored 7 runs.
This season Ohara has delivered 103 hits in 307 at-bats for a .336 average with 12 home runs. He is getting on base at a .419 clip and his totals also include 58 RBIs and 59 runs scored. This year Ohara has played in 81 games. |

Monday, July 27th, 2009: Ricci swung a blistering bat last week for Orix, rapping out 11 hits in 25 at-bats against Buffaloes opponents to propel himself to the Pacific League Player of the Week Award.
Whenever the right fielder hit the ball, he hit it with authority. The 26-year-old racked up a .440 batting average with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
This year Ricci is hitting .295 with 104 hits, 10 home runs, 44 RBIs and has scored 49 runs. |
 | Fujii Struts Stuff in Tohoku Win
Sunday, July 26th, 2009: Noriaki Fujii of the Hiroshima Carp was firing on all cylinders against the Tohoku Golden Eagles. He blanked them 9-0 on 5 hits and posted 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.
So far this season Fujii has a record of 9-3 with 94 strikeouts and 25 walks in 122.2 innings and a 3.15 ERA. |
