Monday, July 27th, 2009: His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Kazuhiro Watanabe was rewarded with the Western League Player of the Week honors.
The scrappy Hanshin Tigers shortstop hit .667 while collecting 4 hits in 6 at-bats, no home runs and 0 RBIs.

Monday, July 27th, 2009: This week Eastern League pitching was a feast fit for a king and Shintaro Kichida really made the most of it -- ripping them royally. The talented Yomiuri hitting machine produced a .500 batting average, no home runs, 6 hits in 12 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 2 runs.
That kind of hitting earned him the EL Player of the Week honors.
This year Kichida has hit at a .192 pace and produced 18 RBIs, 3 home runs and scored 17 runs. |
 | Kanno Wins WL Player of the Week Honors
Monday, July 20th, 2009: It was announced today by the Western League that Hiroshima first baseman Shoin Kanno had received the Player of the Week Trophy for his superlative play last week.
During his week-long batting binge he reeled off a .615 batting average, 8 hits and no home runs. Kanno also racked up 0 RBIs and scored 2 runs.
In 64 games this year Kanno has posted a .244 average and put up these numbers: 2 home runs, 19 RBIs and 23 runs scored.
