Monday, July 27th, 2009: So far in his young career, Carlos Silva has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Southern League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 24-year-old Bakersfield Spearheads left fielder hit at a torrid .522 clip as he collected 12 hits in 23 at-bats, no home runs, 8 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
To date Silva has chalked up a .315 average with 8 home runs, driven in 53 runs and scored 60 times. |
 | Northern League Names González Best Batter
Monday, July 27th, 2009: 18-year-old Raúl González made a few Akron headlines during this past week as the rookie shortstop proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Northern League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 17 hits in 29 at-bats to put up a .586 average. González collected 3 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 9 runs.
So far this year González is hitting .295 with 6 home runs. |
