Monday, July 27th, 2009: 18-year-old Abel Thompson sent shock waves through Major League Internet Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the American League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Thompson made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .667 average, 12 hits in 18 at-bats, 2 home runs and 5 runs batted in.
Where the Washington Senators center fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Thompson certainly made his mark last week.
Thompson has a .326 average and a .376 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 93 hits, 13 home runs and driven in 58 runs. |

Monday, July 27th, 2009: One of the league's most exciting young players, Leo Lewis of the Edmonton Oil Kings earned himself Canadian League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.
For the week the 16-year-old left fielder had a lofty .520 average (13-25), collecting 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
In 58 games this season Lewis is batting .231 with 54 hits and 9 home runs. He has scored 22 runs and driven in 43. |
 | Tucson Second Baseman Hurt
Sunday, July 26th, 2009: It took the Tucson team doctor a while to realize it, but second baseman Francisco Morán won't simply play through elbow inflammation after he got hurt throwing the ball in today's Texans-Teddy Bears game. At first, it looked like Morán might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 4-5 weeks.
So far this season Morán is hitting .313 with no home runs, 29 RBIs and 50 runs scored. He has 91 hits in 291 at-bats and a .415 OBP. |
